Nankai Electric Railway has announced that it will begin redevelopment of the area in front of Izumigaoka Station in cooperation with Sakai City, putting the “Izumigaoka Station Revitalization Plan” back into action.
After a study by the Senboku New Design Promotion Council, consisting of Nankai, the city, Osaka Prefecture, and others, a plan to create a space in front of the station that will serve as the face of Senboku New Town was decided upon. In addition, the revitalization plan, which had been postponed until 2023 or later, will be resumed.
The pedestrian deck and Kusunoki Square will be used to improve access from the station to the Kinki University Hospital and Big Bang from the second floor level. The old staircases will be removed and a grand staircase will be built directly from the station’s south concourse to improve circulation.
Nankai’s plan to revitalize the area in front of the station includes the construction of a four-story commercial facility (to be completed in 2028) and a 30-story condominium tower (to be completed in 2031). The commercial facility will be directly connected to the aforementioned deck and will house food and mass merchandisers, as well as cafes and restaurants that students can also use.
