On January 23, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the Government of Ukraine for a grant of up to 4 billion yen for the “Emergency Response Plan for the Elimination of Humanitarian Mines and Unexploded Ordnance”.

JICA has been supporting the recovery and reconstruction of the people of Ukraine, who have suffered tremendous damage from Russian aggression and are forced to live in harsh conditions, through the “Emergency Recovery Plan (Phase 1-4)”, We have provided assistance in the form of equipment and materials in the areas of mine and unexploded ordnance countermeasures, debris and disaster waste treatment, power and energy, water supply, transportation, healthcare, education, agriculture, public broadcasting, and municipal support.
Under this project, Japan will provide equipment and materials necessary for mine countermeasures to address the problem of landmines and unexploded ordnance, which pose a serious threat to human security in Ukraine. By making use of the knowledge and experience in mine countermeasures that Japan has accumulated over many years in the field of international cooperation, this project will contribute to the creation of a safe environment for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Ukraine.

This project will provide Ukraine with urgently needed equipment and materials for landmine clearance, equipment to provide medical assistance to landmine victims, and equipment for mine avoidance education, thereby contributing to Ukraine’s sustainable reconstruction. 1. equipment procurement
i) Mine clearance: demining equipment, explosive transport vehicles, emergency vehicles, attachments for demining equipment, repair equipment for demining equipment maintenance bases, spare parts, etc.
ii) Medical and healthcare sector: medical equipment for treatment diagnosis and rehabilitation, emergency transportation vehicles, etc.
iii) Education sector: Vehicles and educational materials for explosives avoidance education (vehicles equipped to carry out avoidance education at the destination, e.g., to store educational materials for avoidance education)
2. consulting services
Assistance in bidding, technical guidance for operation and maintenance of equipment, etc. to be maintained, installation of equipment, etc.
