The NRT Area Design Center (NADC), established by Chiba Prefecture and Narita International Airport, has unveiled the new name and logo design for Airport City, part of Narita Airport’s second opening project.

The name “SORATO NRT AIRPORT CITY” was chosen. SORATO” means “capital of the sky” and “NRT” (the airport code of Narita International Airport) indicates the unity of the cities and towns around the airport.

The logo design is “Sky Oval,” an oval in the sky. It is based on the motif of an airplane window. The view from the window, which everyone sees every time the plane takes off, is a gateway to a new world and a new future, and also represents SORATO NRT’s philosophy that future industries and human resources will be born and spread their wings from this location.

The project to open Narita Airport No. 2 is collectively called the “Further Functional Enhancement” project, which includes the construction of a new third runway, extension of the existing runway, and consolidation of passenger terminals, and the “New Narita Airport” concept, which is based on this concept and includes the development of new passenger terminals and consolidation of cargo facilities.

The airport site area will be increased from approximately 1,200 hectares to approximately 2,300 hectares, the annual number of departures and arrivals will be increased from the current 340,000 to 500,000, and operating hours will be expanded from 6:00 am to midnight to 5:00 am to 12:30 am.

For access to Narita Airport, Keisei Electric Railway plans to introduce a new paid express service between Oshiage and Narita Airport in FY2028.

In addition, the opening of the Ken-O Expressway in its entirety, the construction of a new IC, and the opening of the Higashi-Kanto Expressway in the Ibaraki direction are scheduled, and based on the Chiba Prefecture Road Council’s “Basic Policy for the Construction of a High Standard Road Network to Support the New Narita Airport,” the construction of the Kita-Chiba Road and New Wangan Road are to be given top priority. The accessibility of the Tokyo metropolitan area and the northern Kanto region is expected to improve.

The name, logo design, and main visual for SORATO NRT were selected from among the 801 proposals received between April and May 2025. The name was selected based on 801 applications received between April and May 2025, and was reviewed and decided upon with input from experts.
