JAL Hometown Ambassadors and Supporters] “Afternoon Tea under the Stars “Runway to Stars””. Enjoy the starry sky and the taste of Hokkaido in winter in Nagasaki!

Posted on January 28, 2026 by Editor in Chief

JAL, which has bases throughout Japan, has been continuously implementing regional revitalization initiatives (currently the “JAL Furusato Project”), and in August 2020 launched the “JAL Furusato Ambassadors,” cabin crew members selected through an in-house recruitment process who move to the area to promote initiatives in their respective regions. In December of the same year, JAL appointed “JAL Hometown Cheering Troops” who are involved in regional revitalization while serving on board. The aim is to develop products and solve regional issues for hometowns and other regions with which they have connections, utilizing the knowledge they have accumulated as flight attendants.

We spoke with JAL Furusato Ambassador Shiina Kazuki, who is involved in a starry sky-inspired event in Nagasaki.

–What can you tell us about your initiatives?

Hello everyone! My name is Kazuki, and I am the JAL Furusato Ambassador for Nagasaki Prefecture. I will be moving to Nagasaki Prefecture in April 2025 and will be working as a JAL Furusato Ambassador.

In this issue, we would like to introduce a joint event being held by the Hilton Nagasaki and the Nagasaki Science Museum. Although the weather has been cold, this is a special event inspired by the starry sky that can be enjoyed only in winter when the air is clear.

Runway to Stars”, an afternoon tea under the stars, will be held from January 10 to February 28.

This project was realized through the shared desire of the Hilton Nagasaki, the Nagasaki Science Museum, and Japan Airlines to further enliven the region. The project is inspired by the story of landing on the wings of Japan Airlines in winter in Hokkaido and looking up at the clear, starry winter sky. We will deliver a special experience that combines the excitement of air travel, the taste of Hokkaido in winter, and the mystery of the starry sky.

During this period, Hilton Nagasaki will offer menus and luncheon mats with an original logo featuring images of starry skies and airplanes. In addition, guests will be able to taste an afternoon tea set featuring sweets and savories inspired by the winter constellations, lavishly prepared with Hokkaido ingredients.

–How are you involved in this effort?

I will guide customers through the charms and trivia of Hokkaido travel at a special event to be held at the Hilton Nagasaki on February 11, 18, and 25. We will also have a recommended information MAP by three JAL hometown ambassadors in charge of the Hokkaido and Obihiro areas.

We have also prepared the popular “Beef Consomme Soup” and JAL’s original drink “Sky Time (peach and grape juice)”. Please enjoy the feeling of traveling to Hokkaido to your heart’s content while flying with Japan Airlines.

In addition, a commentary on the winter constellations will be given by the planetarium staff at the Nagasaki City Science Museum. Please enjoy a unique experience for all five senses.

–What are your future plans and prospects?

Through this initiative, we hope to contribute to the promotion of tourism and regional revitalization by widely communicating the attractions of the region. We are planning to hold more hands-on events to revitalize the region in the future, so please stay tuned. As JAL hometown ambassadors, we will continue our efforts to disseminate information so that you can experience the charms of the region.

–What is your message to travelers?

Enjoy the tastes of Hokkaido while in Nagasaki and contemplate the star-filled sky. This is a truly luxurious experience. We hope that you will enjoy this special afternoon tea and experience the romance of the starry sky and the charm of travel with all your senses. We look forward to seeing you there.
