JR Kyushu will convert Car No. 6 into a two-seat box seat for the “36 Plus 3” excursion express train, scheduled to begin renewal on May 12, 2026, and resume service around fall of the same year.
Currently, the interior features reclining seats on tatami mats, but due to the popularity of the box seats installed in Car 3, Car 6 will be remodeled in the same manner. The seats are semi-compartmentalized, separated from the aisle by a glass partition, and have wooden floors.
Due to the renewal, the “Lunch Plan” service in the Seat Car will end on May 11, and passengers who use the “Lunch Plan” service in the Seat Car between February 26 and the same date will receive an original furoshiki (total of five types, randomly selected), the same as the one used to wrap the lunch boxes in the Lunch Plan.
