Emergency relief supplies provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for flood damage in the Kingdom of Thailand were delivered to the country.
The emergency relief supplies to be provided to Thailand arrived in the capital city of Bangkok on December 1. On the following day, Tuesday, December 2, at 9:30 a.m. (local time), a handover ceremony was held at the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand, attended by Prime Minister Anutin Chanweerakorn, Deputy Prime Minister Bawornsak Uwanor, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitthampraphapart from the Thai side, and Masato Otaka, Japanese Ambassador to Thailand, Shunsuke Sakumichi, JICA Thailand Office Director, and others from Japan. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Bawoosak Uwannoo, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitthampraprapart, Japanese Ambassador to Thailand Masato Otaka, and JICA Thailand Office Director Shunsuke Sakumichi.
At the handover ceremony, Prime Minister Anutin expressed his deep appreciation for Japan’s prompt assistance and reaffirmed the strong bond between Japan and Thailand, where both countries help each other in times of emergency. In response, Ambassador Otaka expressed his condolences to those who lost their lives in the flooding and his sympathy for the victims, and expressed his sincere wishes for the safety of the victims and for the earliest possible recovery and reconstruction of the affected areas.
Among the foreign aid for the flood damage in the south, the aid supplies from Japan, which were delivered to the Thai government the earliest, have been delivered by the Thai government to the affected areas sequentially since December 1.
