JR East to Launch “Local Suica” in Spring 2027. Linkage with My Number to support local currencies and administrative procedures all at once.

JR East Group will preliminarily launch the “local Suica” service in Gunma and Miyagi prefectures in the spring of 2027.

This is the third phase of the “Suica Renaissance” project, following walk-through ticket gates and the “teppay” code payment service. By linking Mobile Suica with My Number Card, it will provide locally-optimized MaaS and lifestyle service functions in addition to Suica functions.

Mobile Suica users do not need to download a new application. In areas where it is supported, the system switches to “local Suica” at the time of exiting the ticket gate.

Specific services will include: discounts on transportation subsidies based on residence, age, etc., simply by touching Suica, real-time route search and seamless reservations covering the entire area including local mobility services (demand transportation, shared bicycles, etc.), and more.

In conjunction with teppay, a code payment service to be offered in the fall of 2026, the company will also be able to earn “regional value” and “regional coupons” that can be used in certain regions.

Linked to the My Number Card, it also supports online application for benefits, notices from local governments, and reception at public facilities and medical institutions.

Furthermore, by utilizing Suica’s movement data, the system will promote local DX, such as efficient distribution of relief supplies at evacuation centers through access control and disaster prevention services such as safety confirmation, as well as support the implementation of local mobility, such as public ride-sharing and transportation to and from cram schools, club activities, and school children. The company will also support the implementation of local mobility services such as public ride-sharing and transportation of students to and from cram schools, club activities, and school children.
