The emergency relief supplies to be provided to Sri Lanka arrived in Colombo late at night on December 3. At 10:30 a.m. (local time) on the following day, December 4, a handover ceremony was held at Bandaraike International Airport, attended by Mr. K.P. At the handover ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Defense expressed his deep appreciation for Japan’s prompt assistance, and stated that the goods would be delivered to the severely damaged districts of Kandy and Badulla on December 5. Ambassador Isomata expressed his hope that the damage caused by Cyclone Ditwa would be brought under control as soon as possible, saying, “From the initial response to reconstruction, Japan will continue to stand with the people of Sri Lanka. Mr. Kuronuma, Director of the JICA office, also emphasized the strong ties and friendship between the two countries, and mentioned the importance of delivering essential supplies to the affected areas and people as soon as possible.

In parallel with the provision of emergency relief supplies, JICA dispatched a 31-member medical team to Sri Lanka and started operations in Chilaw City, Puttalam Province. This ongoing support symbolizes the strong bilateral ties and mutual trust between Japan and Sri Lanka, built by helping each other in difficult times.
