Background and Objectives

The event is organized by ILBANK and aims to share experiences gained from post-earthquake environmental infrastructure projects implemented with support from international organizations such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, JICA, and the Islamic Development Bank.

The event will cover technical solutions implemented in projects related to water supply, wastewater treatment, stormwater management, and solid waste management, as well as climate resilience standards and green finance instruments. It will also focus on the relevance of these projects to “climate action,” “sustainable cities,” and “inclusive development.”

Contents

JICA explained that based on the global agenda in the areas of climate change and disaster reduction, countries including Turkey are promoting “Build Back Better” initiatives and investment in advance disaster reduction in relation to environmental infrastructure as a co-benefit measure against climate change. He also explained the importance of developing climate resilient infrastructure, referring to “high quality infrastructure investment” since the impacts of climate change are expected to be felt for a long time in the future.

EBRD is focusing on reconstruction assistance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in cooperation with ILBANK, and is developing flood-resistant infrastructure such as hospitals and water facilities, considering what will be needed in the future, not what is needed now.

He explained that the IsDB has been supporting the rehabilitation of municipal infrastructure in Turkey by providing interest-free loans to local governments. He explained that it is important to comply with IsDB’s safeguards and procurement guidelines when providing assistance, and that it is also important to provide technical assistance to strengthen the capacity of the municipalities receiving assistance.
