Furano Line to increase evening up trains from December to February. Responding to winter crowding, information staff and security guards will be assigned.

Posted on November 23, 2025 by Editor in Chief

JR Hokkaido will implement congestion countermeasures on the Furano Line from December 1 to February 28, 2026.

Due to the congestion of up trains in the evening last winter, one extra regular train will be operated between Biei Station and Asahikawa Station at 6:00 p.m. during the above period. For other regular trains, the number of trains between Asahikawa and Biei Stations will be increased to two cars after 14:00.

In addition, safety measures will be implemented at Biei and Bimagyu Stations, which are expected to be heavily used, by placing security guards on the platforms. Since there are many foreign visitors to Japan, information staff who can interpret for them will be stationed at Asahikawa and Biei Stations.

Users are reminded that traffic system IC cards are not accepted on the Furano Line, and that only cash is accepted for payment on board. They are advised to purchase tickets in advance and, in principle, to get off at the front door of one-man trains.
