Kauai Town Walk. Travel time to experience the aloha of an island where nature and town coexist in abundance.

Posted on November 22, 2025 by Editor in Chief

The first town is Lihue. Lihue Airport, the gateway to Kauai, is located here, and the town is the administrative center of the island. The town has long-established stores that have been loved by the locals and restaurants that weave through the history of the town, so it would be a shame to pass by without visiting.

Hazon Saimin

For example, on the day you arrive after connecting on Oahu, you want to have a quick dinner and relax at the hotel. In such a case, you can go to “Hazon Saimin”.

Saimin is a local food born in Hawaii. There are various theories about its origin, and it is believed to be a noodle dish born from a fusion of the food cultures of Japanese, Chinese, and other immigrants working on plantation farms. Since its establishment in 1952, the restaurant has become so famous that it is now known as “the place to go when you think of saimin” in Kauai.

Saimin tastes nothing like ramen, Japanese soba, or Okinawan soba. It is filled with thick noodles in a clear broth with a hint of meat and seafood in a shrimp broth. It is not shockingly delicious, but rather a taste that makes you want to eat it again. When I asked the owner, who carried the saimin without stopping in the packed restaurant, he answered proudly, “Everything is carefully handmade from scratch!” he answered proudly.

The usual side dish to accompany the saimin (regular saimin: $8.50 for a small size to $11 for an extra large), which has always offered the same flavor, is BBQ sticks. These are skewered like so-called yakitori (grilled chicken) and include chicken and beef ($3.75 per stick). They are served hot, dipped in sauce and grilled to perfection in the kitchen. If you set foot on Kauai, you should try one of these saimin for a meal. You will feel a sense of relief as if you have been accepted into Kauai.
