On November 4, Yokohama City held the “The Next Expo is Yokohama! GREEN x EXPO 2027 500 Days Before the Opening” at Yokohama City Hall, where Ryoichiro Orii, Director General of the Yokohama City Office for Decarbonization and GREEN x EXPO Promotion, revealed the details of Yokohama’s exhibit.
Two areas will be developed: “Urban GX Village” (Urban GX Village) near the main gate and “SATOYAMA Village” (Satoyama Village) to the south.
The Urban GX Village is an indoor facility utilizing the building space of approximately 3,000 m2, and is divided into two zones: the “Behavior Change Experience Zone” where visitors can experience a new way of living, and the “Advanced Technology Experience Zone” where they can enjoy and learn about the city and lifestyle of the future with their five senses.
SATOYAMA Village will be a place for environmental activities (outdoors) utilizing the field, covering an area of approximately 10,000 m2, where environmental groups will create futuristic flowerbeds and conduct workshops such as guided tours, insect habitat creation, and flower planting.
Other efforts to publicize the Horticultural Exposition included “Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai & 2027 International Horticultural Exposition & Sakiyo-ken Yokohama Pineapple Cake Brown Sugar” and “Myakmyak Tunktunk Yokohama Harbor Double Marron”, both collaboration products with companies in Yokohama. Both are available at the Official Store, officially licensed products of the 2027 International Gardening Exposition.
The “GREEN x EXPO Special Edition License Plates,” which are scheduled to be issued starting in January 2026, were also unveiled for the first time in a design for motorized bicycles.
The theme of the International Horticultural Exposition 2027 (GREENxEXPO 2027) is “Tomorrow’s Landscape for Creating Happiness”. The exhibition will be held from March 19 to September 26, 2027, and the venue will utilize approximately 100 hectares of the former Kamiseya Communication Facility and the south side of Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
Approved by the AIPH (Association of International Gardeners) and accredited by the BIE (Bureau International des Expositions), this will be the first horticultural exposition in Japan of the highest A1 class in about 37 years, since the Osaka Flower Expo in 1990.
