Tips for “Shifting” the place of stay

Posted on November 16, 2025 by News Admin

The other day, when I went to cover the “THE ROYAL EXPRESS,” I had to stay the night before because I had to start from Gifu Station in the morning. The problem was that it was the middle day of a three-day weekend, and I had decided to go for the interview at the last minute. The question was how to secure a place to stay in such a situation.

The ideal location is in front of a train station in a major city. However, if the purpose of the trip is to use the train itself, the ideal place to stay would be in front of or near a train station in a major city, unless the purpose of the trip is to visit some sightseeing spot or event. If you stay far from the station, it will cost you time and money to get to and from the station. If other modes of transportation are used there, the risk of delays will also increase. In fact, the most reliable way to get there is on foot. In addition, there is often a wide choice of accommodations near major cities, stations where trains start and end, and “railroad hubs” where major trunk lines branch off. There are occasional exceptions to this rule. However, since there are many people who use such places, they tend to fill up during peak seasons such as Bon, year-end, and New Year’s, and prices tend to rise. When there is an event that attracts a large number of people, it is often the case that as soon as the event is announced, lodging facilities in major cities in the vicinity fill up in an instant. This is why we are suggesting a slightly “staggered” option. Even if it is difficult to shift the dates, it is possible to shift the places to stay. In the case of the story I wrote at the beginning of this article, the starting point of the interview was Gifu Station, so it goes without saying that the best place to stay the night before is in front of Gifu Station. However, in the middle of a three-day weekend and at the last minute, there were few available rooms, and even if there were, they were expensive. Since this was not an option, we looked around for a place in the vicinity of Gifu. However, while there were many options in Nagoya, the prices were too high, so we had to exclude Nagoya. So what did the author consider?
