On April 17, JR Tokai announced the introduction of fully private room-type seats on the Tokaido Shinkansen. The service is scheduled to begin by the end of fiscal year 2026.
A portion of the N700S trains (two rooms per train) will be equipped with a highly private and secure environment, with private room-only Wi-Fi and reclining seats with leg rests, as well as individually adjustable functions for lighting brightness, air conditioning air volume, and broadcast volume.
By providing private rooms of higher quality than those in the Green Car, the new cars will meet a variety of needs, including the ability to hold online meetings without hesitation and to relax without worrying about one’s surroundings.
