Signing of Yen Loan Agreements for India: Metro Construction in Two Major Cities Where Many Japanese Companies Have Set Up Businesses – Contributing to the Stimulation of Economic Activity and the Mitigation of Climate Change by Easing Traffic Congestion | News & Media

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement (L/A) with the Government of the Republic of India on March 26 in New Delhi, the capital of India, for two projects totaling up to 161,875 million yen.

The two projects covered by the yen loan agreements signed this time are as follows.

(1) Mumbai Metro 3rd Line Construction Project (Phase IV) (Loan amount: 58,943 million yen)

(2) Delhi Rapid Transit System Construction Project (Phase 4) (Phase II) (Loan amount: 102,932 million yen)

Details of each business are as follows

(1) Mumbai Metro Line 3 Project (Phase IV)

(a) Purpose and outline of business

This project will construct a mass rapid transit system in the Mumbai metropolitan area, the capital of the western Indian state of Maharashtra, in order to meet increasing transportation demand, thereby contributing to regional economic development and urban environmental improvement by reducing traffic congestion and automobile pollution. This project is expected to contribute to Goal 8, Goal 9, Goal 11, and Goal 13 of the SDGs.

(b) Project implementing agency

Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited

(c) Schedule for future project implementation (tentative)

(1) Project completion date: October 2024 (project completion at the time all facilities are put into service)

  1. expected date of sending invitation for consulting services (construction supervision, etc.): hired

  2. public announcement of bids for the first procurement package through international competitive bidding for the main body of work: contracted

(2) Delhi Mass Rapid Transport System Project (Phase 4) (II)

(a) Purpose and outline of business

This project will construct a mass rapid transit system in the Delhi metropolitan area in northern India to meet the increasing demand for transportation, thereby contributing to the development of the local economy and improvement of the urban environment by reducing traffic congestion and automobile pollution, and thereby mitigating climate change. This project is expected to contribute to Goal 8, Goal 9, Goal 11, and Goal 13 of the SDGs.

(b) Project implementing agency

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited
