Kesennuma Line BRT approved for Tohoku’s first Level 4 automatic operation on the 4.8 km BRT dedicated road from Yanaizu Station to Rikuzentai Yokoyama Station.

On March 22, JR East announced that its automated buses have received Level 4 approval for the Kesennuma Line BRT. The approved section is from Yanaizu Station to Rikuzen Yokoyama Station (BRT dedicated road, approx. 4.8 km).

Automated Level 4 is where the system performs all driving operations under limited conditions and the driver can leave the driver’s seat (unattended operation).

It is the first automatic operation level 4 approved in the Tohoku region and the first in Japan to achieve a top speed of 60 km/h.
