MLIT Extends Free Expressway for Residents Evacuated from Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident to 2025

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) has announced that it will extend until March 31, 2025 the free expressway service for residents evacuated from the evacuation zone due to the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident.

Extension period: until 24:00 on March 31, 2024 → until 24:00 on March 31, 2025

Required documents: Hometown return pass card (green) or certificate related to the travel route.

Target area (Fukushima Prefecture): Residents who lived in the restricted area of the nuclear power plant accident at the time of the disaster (hereinafter referred to as “the affected area”).
