JR Tokai has been progressively upgrading station buildings to be more earthquake resistant and to prevent ceilings from falling out as part of its station earthquake countermeasures.
Based on the experience of the Great East Japan Earthquake, we have been reinforcing the platform houses of each station since 2021 in order to enhance safety in the event of an earthquake. The new plan for seismic retrofitting of rail platform sheds has been compiled based on technological developments that have made it possible to ensure their seismic performance.
The target stations are Mishima, Fuji, Kakegawa, Toyohashi, Anjo, and Ogaki, all of which have more than 10,000 passengers per day and use rails for the pillars and beams of the platform sheds. The column legs of the rails used in the platform sheds will be reinforced to ensure earthquake resistance against strong shaking.
Experiments using actual rails were conducted to confirm material performance and other factors. Seismic performance can be ensured by root-wrap reinforcement, etc., and dampers that absorb their own shaking are installed as needed.
The construction cost is approximately 800 million yen, and the construction period is scheduled from March to March 2024.
