Kai Kaga, operated by Hoshino Resort, will offer the “Kaga no Bunka Zukushi Plan,” which is subject to the Hokuriku Ouen Discount, to one couple per day only.
The plan includes accommodations in a “Kaga Traditional Craft Room with Open-air Bath,” a special “Nodoguro and Abalone Kaiseki,” a local breakfast, Kintsugi Iroha, and use of the lounge opening on March 13. Rates start at 53,750 yen per night (per person in a double room, including tax and service charge), but will be reduced to 33,750 yen with the Hokuriku Ouen Wari discount.
The reservation method and period of eligibility will be announced by Ishikawa Prefecture and the secretariat in the future.
The guest rooms at Kai Kaga are decorated with Kutani ware, Yamanaka lacquerware, mizuhiki, and Kaga yuzen, four representative traditional crafts that Ishikawa Prefecture is proud of. Original Kutani Yaki porcelain made by a local artist was used for the guest room nameplates, key chains for room keys, and tea utensils. The interior also utilizes original artwork wall hangings with Kutani Yaki design tiles and Yamanaka-nuri lacquer. In addition, the shoji screens are decorated with mizuhiki and the bedroom with panels featuring Kaga yuzen motifs.
Kutaniyaki, a local traditional craft, is characterized by decorations called Kutani Gosai (five colors of Kutani) on the white background of the pottery. Whenever there are cracks or splits in the dishes used for dinner and breakfast or tea utensils in guest rooms, the staff repairs them by kintsugi (metal-joining), and at the “Kintsugi Workshop” opened in April 2023, guests can participate in the restoration process and experience “Kintsugi Iroha” (metal-joining). The plan is limited to 10 people per day, but with this plan, you can participate in the “Kintsugi Iroha” at 3:30 p.m.
For the meal, enjoy the tastes of Hokuriku with the special “Nodoguro and Abalone Kaiseki”. The abalone is wrapped in wakame seaweed and steamed softly in a seiro (Japanese cooking stove). The abalone soaks into the wakame, and the abalone is slightly infused with the flavor of the wakame. Nodoguro, also known as “white meat toro,” is served with rice cooked in an earthenware pot with nodoguro (sea urchin), which is packed with flavor.
On March 13, a new lounge opened. Located on the second floor of the traditional architecture building facing the main street of Yamashiro Onsen district, the windows are decorated with red latticework, one of the traditional architectural features of the building. In the lounge, guests can enjoy a relaxing time after dinner with drinks and snacks served on dishes made of traditional crafts such as Kutani ware and Yamanaka lacquerware.
In addition, the traditional Kaga Shishimai lion dance, designated as an intangible folk cultural asset by Kanazawa City, is arranged in a unique way and performed daily at 9:30 p.m. With the cooperation of local craftsmen and folk performing arts teams, the choreography, costumes, and music are all original. The staff performs a new Kaga lion dance every night while maintaining the traditions of samurai culture.
