Recently, we have confirmed several cases of suspicious e-mails and SMSs sent by JICA imposters claiming that they will send you a large refund or winnings. In order to receive the refund or winnings, the scammers have reportedly asked the recipients to transfer the fees first or to purchase an Apple Card.
JICA does not send any refunds or winnings.
If you receive such an e-mail or SMS, please do not open the attachment or click on the link and delete it.
By opening attached files or links, there is a risk of virus infection, information theft, etc. In addition, by replying, there is a risk of being involved in crimes such as fraud or extortion.
There was also a report of a call from someone claiming to be from the JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers to collect unwanted items.
JICA officials will not visit your home to collect items or call you to ask for donations.
If you receive such a call, please do not take it personally and hang up the phone.
In the unlikely event that you follow the instructions of the other party and send money, etc., please contact the nearest police station. We ask that you please exercise caution.
