On February 16, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) announced the registration of four new “Michi-no-Eki” stations for the 60th registration, all of which are scheduled to open within the 2024 fiscal year, except for Michi no Eki Yachiho Kogen, scheduled to open in September.
Based on applications from municipalities, etc., Michi-no-Eki stations are registered annually if they meet the following requirements: they are open 24 hours a day, free of charge; they have facilities that provide information on roads and the region; they have facilities for regional development, such as cultural and educational facilities and tourist and recreational facilities; and they have barrier-free facilities and main routes connecting the facilities and the facilities. The following facilities are registered each year.
Roadside Station Towadako (1-2, Aza Ikude, Towadako, Kosaka-cho, Kazuno County, Akita Prefecture) is located on National Route 454. It is being developed as a tourist base located on the shores of Lake Towada, with the aim of expanding tourist exchange through the use of outdoor terraces and green parks.
Michi-no-Eki Yachiho-Kogen (1190-1 Oaza Hata, Sakuho-machi, Minamisaku-gun, Nagano Prefecture) is located on National Route 299. Located near the Yachiho-kogen Interchange on the trans-Chubu Expressway, the station is expected to promote the charm of the area at the gateway to the Minami-Saku area. Outdoor equipment will also be available for rent.
The “Roadside Station: Izumi, a secluded village” (3296-1 Shimodake, Izumi-cho, Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture) is located on National Route 443. In addition to serving as a gateway to the tourist route, the facility will be open to the local community by providing a kids’ space.
Michi no Eki Tokunoshima” (2206 Hanatoku, Tokunoshima-cho, Oshima-gun, Kagoshima Prefecture) will be located on Prefectural Road No. 80, Isen-Kamezu-Tokunoshima Airport Route. In addition to offering Tokunoshima foodstuffs and traditional cultural experiences, the site will also house a World Heritage Center operated by the Ministry of the Environment, aiming to become a center of attraction.
