The “Sunflower Satsuma”, a ferry on the Shibushi route, conducts a demonstration test of satellite broadband Starlink. Free connection available on board.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) Sunflower will begin a demonstration test of its satellite broadband service “Starlink Business” on the Sunflower Satsuwa, which is currently operating on the Osaka-Shibushi route. This is the first time in the long-distance ferry industry that the service will be opened to the general public.

Since it is difficult to use conventional high-speed cell phone communications at sea, far from land, the company decided to study the introduction of “Starlink Business,” which utilizes low earth orbit satellites. Based on the results of this demonstration test, the company will consider full-scale deployment of the service on other vessels and other routes in the future.
