On February 1, JICA Vice President Junichi Yamada met with Robert Bouguere Mambe, Prime Minister of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire, in Abidjan during his visit.
In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Mambe noted the good relations between Cote d’Ivoire and Japan, referring to his own experience in Japan and his interest in Japanese culture, and expressed his gratitude for JICA’s cooperation. He also mentioned various ideas for future cooperation, including JICA’s cooperation in the area of food security, electric power, and urban transportation, including intersections and traffic control.
In response, Vice President Yamada explained that Cote d’Ivoire is an important country in JICA’s cooperation with Africa, with three yen loan projects totaling 52 billion yen in FY2022, the largest scale of cooperation in sub-Saharan Africa, and that JICA is also contributing through the African Development Bank. He also mentioned JICA’s efforts to address various issues faced by Cote d’Ivoire, such as food security (promotion of domestic rice production, etc.), health sector, infrastructure, and urban development, through grant aid and technical cooperation.
