Naoki Wakabayashi’s Travel Photo Gallery] Kusatsu Onsen (Gunma Prefecture)

Posted on February 2, 2024 by News Admin

Kusatsu Onsen, one of the three best hot springs in Japan, has the largest natural gush in Japan at 32,300 liters per minute. There are more than 100 sources.

There are the famous Yubatake fountainhead and Nishinokawara fountainhead, and since most of them are over 50°C, they are offered after cooling them down to the proper temperature by various means, such as “hot water firings. The efficacy is said to be highly acidic and effective for all but those in love. …… I have visited Kusatsu Onsen many times since I was a child, but since my skin has become weak in recent years, I try to bathe in hot springs with lower acidity than those in Kusatsu Onsen.

There are various day-trip hot spring facilities, so no matter how many times I go, I always discover something new. There are also various inns and souvenir shops, so I enjoy walking around the stores while circling the hot spring fields. There is a ski resort nearby, so after a day of skiing, the hot springs are a great place to relax.

Access to Kusatsu Onsen by car is about 60 km from the Usui Karuizawa Interchange on the Joshinetsu Expressway or the Shibukawa Ikaho Interchange on the Kanetsu Expressway, but the roads are well maintained and snow is removed, so there are few problems even in winter. Public transportation is convenient, with direct buses from Tokyo and buses from Karuizawa Station.
