The Fiji Tourism Board held a seminar and top interviews for the media and others in Tokyo on January 29.

Robert Thompson, Executive Director of the Fiji Tourism Board, who visited Japan in conjunction with the event, said, “Fiji is a destination that can satisfy everyone, including families, couples, honeymooners, luxury travelers, and adventure lovers. He added that Fiji is a destination that satisfies everyone, including families, couples, honeymooners, luxury travelers, and adventure lovers.

Mr. Vincent Zeng, Regional Director for Asia, said, “The family market is expected to be a key market in Japan. Fiji is the perfect family-friendly destination and a safe and enjoyable place to visit,” said Mr. Vincent Zeng, Regional Director for Asia. We have not done much promotion for families in Japan so far, but we would like to do more,” he said.

Specifically, the company intends to promote family-friendly resorts, kids’ clubs in hotels, and babysitting services. Fijians are family oriented and love their children, and with a full range of services for children, parents can relax by leaving their children with babysitters or kids’ clubs for a day. Also, since the official language in Fiji is English, he said, it would be useful for children to learn the language.

On the other hand, for couples and honeymooners, the company plans to promote the resort to adult guests only, which is still not well known in Japan. Activities for couples, such as picnics on a deserted island for just the two of them, and weddings will also be promoted.

In addition, the seminar also proposed thematic trips such as golf, rugby, volunteer work, and SDGs. In particular, with regard to rugby, Fiji won the gold medal in men’s 7-a-side rugby at the Tokyo Olympics, making the country familiar to rugby fans, he said.

Fiji is developing a new brand “Towards a Happier Fiji” from 2023, and is promoting the five pillars of “abundant nature,” “adventure,” “community contact,” “refreshment,” and “gourmet. At the seminar, Ms. Sae Miyamoto, Fiji Tourism Board Public Relations Officer, said, “Happiness in Fiji is part of our identity. We want visitors to spend time in Fiji that will bring genuine happiness to the island and experience all five pillars of happiness.

Of the five pillars, Mr. Senn cited “village tours” that visit villages close to each resort as an example of community interaction, explaining that they are “not commercialized and allow you to become a part of the local people’s lives while respecting their ways. He also expressed his intention to convey Fiji’s unique culture, which has continued for more than 4,000 years, through village tours and other means.

Mr. Kato cited increasing Fiji’s visibility in Japan as a future challenge, explaining that he plans to work with travel agencies to attract more travelers to the country.
