Grant Aid Agreement Signed for Burkina Faso: Contributing to the Improvement of Safe and Efficient Logistics through the Development of Road Maintenance and Management Equipment | News & Media

Posted on January 29, 2024 by News Admin

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the Government of Burkina Faso on January 26 in Ouagadougou for a grant of up to 1,006 million yen for the “Road Maintenance and Management Equipment Improvement Project.

Burkina Faso, a landlocked country, relies on road transport for most of its logistics to support imports and exports. While the volume of road transport is increasing, the road network is mostly in a poor condition due to lack of proper maintenance and management, causing major obstacles to road traffic in various regions. The country’s road network also plays an important role as a logistics node connecting the coastal countries of Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, and Benin in the south with the landlocked countries of Niger and Mali in the north, and the development of an international corridor connecting the coastal countries is one of the top development priorities for the surrounding region.

This project will not only respond to the increasing traffic demand across the country by providing road maintenance and management equipment, but also strengthen the maintenance and management system of the country’s road network, which is becoming increasingly important as a logistics node for West African countries, and contribute to the improvement of safe and efficient logistics, thereby contributing to SDG Goal 9 (building a foundation for industrial and technological innovation) and This will contribute to SDG Goal 9 (building a foundation for industry and technological innovation) and Goal 11 (creating cities where people can continue to live).
