Google Maps “Indoor Live View” introduced for the Toei Subway, allowing users to see the route to their destination while viewing the actual scenery in AR.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Transportation Bureau will introduce Google Maps’ “Indoor Live View” to the Toei Subway. The service will first be available at Tochomae Station on the Oedo Line from January 25, and will be gradually introduced at other stations.

Indoor Live View” is a navigation function that utilizes augmented reality (AR), allowing users to check the route from the station to their destination on the ground while viewing the actual scenery. It can also be used in subway stations where radio waves are difficult to reach.

In addition, as a measure against walking smartphones, use of the phone is restricted on station platforms, and in stations, the guidance screen is displayed only when the phone is held up with the face up.
