Hakone DMO has released a full-scale Hakone Tourism Digital Map.
The map displays landmarks such as restaurants and recommended courses on the map. For some spots, it is possible to check congestion, make reservations online, and obtain coupons. It is also possible to forecast traffic congestion based on parking conditions, and view timetables and operation information for buses, trains, and other vehicles.
The system is designed to prevent and curb overtourism by guiding the dispersion of travelers. On January 31, the company plans to add Hakone ropeway and other transportation facilities that support the display of timetables and operation information. An API for tourism data will also be made available in order to create new services.
