Commemorating the retirement of the E2 Series 200 color, rare tour of driving the Tohoku and Joetsu Shinkansen without changing trains

Posted on January 19, 2024 by News Admin

East Japan Railway Company (JR East) will terminate regular service of the E2 Series 200 color trains (J66 formation) on March 15.

To commemorate this event, East Japan Railway Company and JR East View Tourism & Sales will offer a tour on March 2 to celebrate the retirement of the E2 Series 200 color trains. Tickets will be available from January 19, and the tour price per person will vary depending on whether you are a group or an individual. Each group will be guaranteed a window seat.

This tour operates the Tohoku and Joetsu Shinkansen trains, which normally do not operate directly, without changing trains. The course departs from Morioka Station, turns around at Ueno Station, and arrives at Niigata Station, stopping at every station except Kurikomakogen Station and Honjo Waseda Station. The train will also stop at platforms that are rarely used and passengers will be able to enjoy “Furusato Chimes”.

Lunch will be provided in the form of special boxed lunches designed by Shinkansen crew members.
