Awajiya will release “Umi no ‘Moshi wa 118 Hittari Meshi'” on January 12, 2024, in collaboration with the Japan Coast Guard, in honor of “118th Day” on January 18, 2024. A total of 15,000 units (planned) will be sold, priced at 1,480 yen.

This is the third in a series of products sold every year to raise public awareness of the number 118. The jar, which was designed in the image of a Japan Coast Guard vessel, depicts the agency’s “S” insignia, and the wrapping paper features the words, “Call 118 for ‘incidents and accidents’ at sea,” a life raft, and an octopus wearing the hat of an agency official. Squid, which is abundant in the oceans under the jurisdiction of the 5th Regional Security Headquarters, was added to the filling of the rice to make it a special “hitappadako meshi.
