JAL explained its views on the collision between JL516 and a Japan Coast Guard plane at Haneda Airport on January 2.
JAL’s aircraft was an Airbus A350-900 (registration code: JA13XJ).
The aircraft was a total loss as a result of the accident; all 379 people on Flight 516 (12 crew and 367 passengers) escaped, but five of the six Coast Guard crew members were killed and one was injured. JAL also reports that one passenger on Flight 516 is bruised, one has a sprain, and 13 are unwell.
According to the company, the formal accident report will be finalized by the Transportation Safety Board, but in an interview with the captain who was on board, he explained that he recognized and recited the landing clearance from ATC, and then performed the approach and landing maneuvers.
In response to the case, Airbus has decided to dispatch a team of experts to provide technical assistance to the Transportation Safety Board and the French Inspection and Analysis Bureau.
