Background and Objectives

The Fukuoka Method, a treatment method for final landfills that is attracting attention as one of the measures to reduce methane gas emissions in waste management, was discussed from various perspectives, including specific examples of introduction and possible financial support schemes for introducing the method. JICA, in collaboration with JICA’s Global Agenda (GA) and the Japanese government’s initiatives for inter-city cooperation, discussed the usefulness of the Fukuoka method in developing countries and the importance of human resource development, and deepened the discussion.

JICA’s Akihiro Miyazaki, Deputy Director General of the Global Environment Department and Head of the Environmental Management and Climate Change Group, participated in the panel discussion.
