Background and Objectives

JICA, together with the Ugandan Ministry of ICT and National Guidance (MoICT), is implementing the “ICT Industry Promotion Project (nicknamed UJ-Connect)” to support Uganda’s ICT sector. In this project, based on Uganda’s current situation and the Ugandan government policy that even ICT engineers with a high level of English proficiency and who have graduated from higher education are facing serious difficulties in finding employment, we will propose policies to promote the ICT industry, provide programs for ICT human resource development, promote business matching between local companies and Japanese companies, and support startups and Japanese companies in the ICT industry. We are also working to promote business matching between local companies and Japanese companies and to create a startup ecosystem.

Contents

After explaining the current state of the ICT industry and related companies in Uganda and the business environment, Japanese companies that have actually collaborated with Ugandan ICT companies took the stage to talk about their experiences, lessons learned, and challenges they face. Both Mr. Yoshitani and Mr. Nakai, who shared their experiences, emphasized the need to value communication as much as Japanese teams when collaborating with Ugandan companies based on their own experiences.

In addition, we have sent out information on the matching program between Japanese companies and Ugandan ICT companies, which is open until January 19, 2024. Please check the details from the documents and related links and apply for the matching program.
