Green Fare for Metropolitan Area Regular Trains to be Revised in March 2024: Suica Green Fare, a 260 yen discount, will be newly established, and paper tickets will be uniformly charged.

Posted on December 15, 2023 by News Admin

JR East will change the fare structure for green cars of regular and rapid trains in the Tokyo metropolitan area from March 16, 2024.

The “Weekday Fare” and “Holiday Fare” and “Advance Fare” and “In-train Fare” categories will be abolished, and all fares will be the same as the “Normal Fare” when a green ticket is purchased with a paper ticket. In contrast, a new “Suica Green Fare” has been established for the use of “Suica Green Ticket”. The fare will be a uniform 260 yen discount from the regular fare.

After the change, Suica will be available only for the card type when riding from JR Tokai’s Atami Station to Numazu Station (except when using only within JR Tokai’s service area.) When using Suica Green Ticket from JR Tokai’s service area, you do not need to purchase a Green Ticket in advance, but you need to ask the attendant in the train. You need to make a request to the attendant in the train without purchasing a Green Ticket in advance.

In addition, although the fares have been the same for operating kilometers of 51 km or more, the change will create “up to 100 km” and “101 km or more” fare zones. As an example, when using a green car between Tokyo Station and Atami Station (104.6 km), a green ticket for “101 km or more” will be required after the change.

The amount of Suica Green tickets and Green commuter passes sold in exchange for JRE POINT will remain unchanged.
