Vocalist Kotone’s Music Journey] A trip to Europe, where she enjoyed gourmet food so much that she ate herself to death, and encountered many delicious foods.

Enjoying delicious food with the vigor of eating up Lyon, a city of gastronomy As we approached the Lyon-Pardieu station from Charles de Gaulle airport, the scenery became more and more rural. Arriving at the Lyon Perre-Dieu station, we first purchased a ticket that can be used for streetcars and buses. Tram and bus tickets can be purchased from a vending machine at the streetcar stop after exiting the station. I booked a private room on Airbnb and stayed in an area not far from the center of the city. I left my luggage at the inn and went for a walk in Lyon and found a cake shop called “Piece of cake”. It was kind of crowded and looked delicious, so I bought an orthodox cheesecake. The eat-in area was crowded, so we took it out and ate it by the river. It was lemon-y and delicious! The cheese was rich, the crackers underneath were just the right amount of salty, and we quickly found something delicious. We decided to eat a lot since we were in Lyon, a city of gastronomy, and went to a popular diner where we could eat Lyon’s local cuisine called “bouchon”. This time we went to a restaurant called “Le Va’Idisere”. We went just as the restaurant opened, so even without a reservation, there were empty seats and we managed to get a table. We had a Lyon-style salad with bacon, crispy croutons, and poached eggs; quenelle, a local Lyon dish of fish paste with lobster sauce and baked like gratin; country-style pate; and finally, fresh cheese with a mixture of herbs and garlic. Finally, we were served a dish unique to Lyon called “cervelles de cannes,” a mixture of fresh cheese, herbs, and garlic. By the time we finished eating, the restaurant was full! We entered the restaurant in passing, but it was still a popular restaurant because it tasted so good. And speaking of Lyon, a city of gastronomy, the Paul Bocuse market is the place to be! Cheese, ham, olives, side dishes, wine, it really is like a food amusement park. Moreover, cheese and ham are cheaper than in Japan, so I couldn’t resist buying them. I bought olives and ham to eat at my hotel and enjoyed them with wine in my room.

I took a gondola tour in Venice, the city of canals. However, it was raining unfortunately that day, and although it would have been fine if it was only raining, many of the streets were flooded and we could not walk on them. Many tourists had to walk through the simply constructed pathways, so there was always a traffic jam. Many people had to wear improvised boots, and those without pathways were soaked to the skin and had no place to walk. It was not a torrential downpour that day, but just a normal amount of rain, so I was surprised to see this happen. We arrived at the gondola station with soaking wet shoes and boarded the gondola, which we had longed for. The beautiful blue canals looked as if they were made in the real world, and the view of the city of Venice. The view from the gondola was truly breathtaking and made me feel glad that I had come even though I was only there for one night and two days. Venice is so crowded with tourists that an entrance fee is required to enter the main island, but after seeing this view, it is no wonder that tourists from all over the world are flocking to Venice. After the gondola ride, I wanted to eat some seafood, but I didn’t have much time before my next flight, so I went to “Trattoria Ai Leoncini” to take out squid-ink pasta and bongole (pasta with squid ink). While waiting for the water bus to Piazzale Roma to catch the airport bus, I also bought a tiramisu flavor of “cannolo,” a famous Italian pastry. The texture of the sweet cream and the crunchy dough make for a delightful pastry. I was a foodie who wanted to enjoy Italian food until the last minute on a bulletproof trip to Venice with little time to spare. I got off the water bus and took another overland bus from Piazzale Roma to the airport. From there, I flew to Paris and stayed one night in Paris for my return trip back to Japan. The second half of my trip to Europe this time was difficult with heavy suitcases, but I was very happy to visit many countries, eat a lot of delicious food, and visit places I had longed to visit since my childhood. The euro and the pound sterling were expensive, but I am glad that I was able to go abroad this time because I can only go abroad when I have the energy and time. It was a two-month trip abroad from Buenos Aires, Argentina, but it was a wonderful trip that will remain in my memories forever. I don’t know when I will be able to go abroad again, but I will enjoy the pleasure of making plans and saving money again, while at the same time enjoying my life in Japan and domestic travel to the fullest.
