NEXCO East Japan, NEXCO Central Japan, NEXCO West Japan, JB Honshi Kosoku, and Japan Road Traffic Information Center have announced the traffic congestion forecast for the year-end and New Year period from 2023 to 2024.

Traffic congestion is expected to be heavy on the downbound route on December 29-30 and January 2, and on the upbound route on January 2-3. On January 2, when both directions converge, a total of 67 traffic jams are expected to occur. The largest traffic jam is expected to be 40 km long (peak hour) near the Hadano Nakai Interchange on the off-ramp of the Tomei Expressway on December 29.

In order to prevent traffic congestion, they call for changing the time of use, paying attention to speed and distance between vehicles, and restricting lane changes.
