40% of respondents are worried about urine leakage on a New Year’s visit or going home. Eliezer announces results of survey on urinary problems.

Daio Paper Corporation, the maker of Elleair, conducted a survey of 500 people in their 20s to 60s across Japan (survey period: October 25 to 27) to find out about the actual state of urinary problems and countermeasures to deal with them.

The survey results showed that although about one in two (47.0%) had experienced urine leakage or near-misses, 78.3% of them had not consulted anyone. The majority (53.6%) felt that the frequency of using the restroom increases in winter, and the most common times they actually experienced urine leakage were “when traveling back home or on vacation” and “when stuck in line” and “when there are few public restrooms” as reasons for anxiety.

Other factors include the sales volume of the light incontinence liner and pad market (Intage SRI), which was more than 300 million units in December 2022, up 128% from September 2022, suggesting that there are more urinary problems in the winter than in other seasons.

According to urologist Yurika Ito, urine leakage is caused not only by aging and childbirth experience, but also by lifestyle habits and hidden diseases. As countermeasures, it is important not to drink too much water, especially in winter, to exercise moderately to keep the body cool, and to engage in “behavioral therapy,” such as exercising pelvic floor muscles and bladder training.
