XREAL Air 2 Pro,” now more resistant to outdoor activities, goes on sale November 17.

Xreal Japan will release a new AR glasses model, XREAL Air 2 Pro, on November 17. On November 16, the day before the release, the company held a hands-on event at THE FARM, a farm resort in Katori City, Chiba Prefecture, to give visitors an idea of how the glasses can be used outdoors.

XREAL Air 2 Pro is an AR glasses with the ability to adjust the transmittance of the sunglass part by electronic control. By pressing the mode button on the right temple, the user can switch between three levels: 0%, 35%, and 100%. The price is 61,980 yen.

In the XREAL Air 2, the equivalent of the lower-priced version, the light shield that blocks outside light was physically controlled by detaching and attaching it outside the glasses, but in the XREAL Air 2 Pro, the real world can be made visible or invisible in the background for a more immersive experience without carrying this with you.

Since these functions are more useful outdoors than in an indoor environment, the company planned a hands-on event at an outdoor facility. Masato Nakazawa, marketing manager, said, “The use of entertainment plus the outdoors, such as camping, is really increasing, and we decided to hold this hands-on event because we want these users to be able to use the product.

Xreal has been accelerating its globalization with the launch of sales in the European region in October, and since the previous model, Nreal Air (XREAL Air), was launched in Japan ahead of the rest of the world, Nakazawa says, “We are working on branding that is rooted in Japan. As if to back this up, the company is continuing its efforts to communicate the value of its products by exhibiting at the Tokyo Game Show and CEATEC this year and actively providing opportunities for people to experience them.

This hands-on experience began with the opening of the package for the commercial version of the XREAL Air 2 Pro. Upon opening the box, an oval-shaped case was revealed, in which the main unit was stored. After removing the protective film and, if necessary, attaching the insert lens for vision correction, the preparation was complete.

These insert lenses are attached to the main body in combination with nosepiece parts, but insert lenses for Nreal Air (XREAL Air) can also be used.

The previous insert lenses were fixed at a single point in the center, so they were prone to breakage, few opticians were willing to undertake the processing, and the labor cost was rather high. The new insert lenses have a different shape and seem to aim at solving these problems.

However, the weight was reduced and the balance between the front and rear centers of gravity was adjusted, so the weight no longer causes the wearer’s head to gradually slip out of place. In addition, the modern part that touches the ear (the tip cell) has been changed to a softer and more flexible material, which seems to have greatly improved the wearing comfort.

The temples are equipped with speakers, but in this model, the speakers are positioned to face up and down on the left and right sides, respectively, to suppress sound leakage to the surroundings by bumping the opposite-phase sound. Although not as good as the HUAWEI Eyewear in terms of sound leakage prevention, the difference is obvious when compared to the previous model.

As for the light control function, which is the greatest feature of the product, setting the transmittance to 0% makes it easier to read text when browsing the Web, etc. On the other hand, when enjoying video content while cooking on a barbecue, which is one of the most enjoyable outdoor activities, you can change the transmittance to keep an eye out for the food. For example, if you are enjoying video content while cooking on a barbecue, which is one of the most enjoyable outdoor activities, you can change the transparency to avoid burning your precious foodstuff.

Regrettably, Nebula for Windows, a software application that can realize a 3-screen multi-window environment on a Windows PC, does not recognize this product at this time. Although it is possible to display only one screen as an external display, we would like to use it in a multi-window environment.

According to Product Manager Takao, development is underway to release a compatible version by the end of November, so those who want to use this feature will have to wait a little longer.
