Nomura Real Estate Development, Inc., Tokyu Land Corporation, Sumitomo Corporation, Hulic, and East Japan Railway Company announced that an urban planning decision has been issued for the “Nakano 4-chome New North Exit Ekimae Area Type 1 Urban Redevelopment Project” (4-2-47 Nakano, Nakano-ku, Tokyo) that they are promoting together with Nakano Ward.

Among a total of 11 urban development projects underway in various districts around Nakano Station, the project will reorganize the functions of Nakano Sun Plaza and develop a complex facility consisting of a hall, offices, residences, retail, and a hotel on more than 2 hectares, including the Nakano Sun Plaza and Nakano Ward Office sites. The project aims to improve the circulation around Nakano Station, which has nurtured diverse cultures such as music, subcultures, and food, and to develop a base facility that takes advantage of the location’s characteristics.

Plans call for the placement of offices to contribute to the growth of the daytime population, residences to contribute to the growth of the nighttime population, and commercial, hotel, hall, and area management facilities to contribute to the growth of the exchange population. To succeed and develop Nakano Sun Plaza, a multi-purpose hall with a capacity of up to 7,000 people will be developed. In addition, restaurants, view facilities, a banquet and convention center that can be used for socializing and meetings, and an indoor playground for children that can be used safely and securely by the child-rearing generation will be introduced.

A pedestrian deck will provide access from Nakano Station to the surrounding area, and a three-dimensional atrium space will connect the ground level to the pedestrian deck. A three-dimensional pedestrian network will be created to provide a barrier-free connection to the various districts around Nakano Station. In addition, a plaza space that can be used in unison with the building’s facilities will be developed, aiming to create a lively community, a place for interaction, and an evacuation site in the event of a disaster.

The future schedule includes approval of enforcement, approval of the right-of-way restitution plan, and demolition of the building in FY2024.
