JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met with Mr. Filippo Grandi, High Commissioner of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), at JICA headquarters on October 19.
President Tanaka and High Commissioner Grandi shared their recognition of the importance of strengthening partnerships as development and humanitarian agencies to address the increasing and complex refugee problems around the world.
The two sides also confirmed that they will further strengthen their collaboration in preparation for the second Global Refugee Forum, to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, in December 2023, and will continue to explore possibilities for collaboration in the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa.
JICA will continue to work with UNHCR to resolve refugee issues through development cooperation.
