Three aircraft are now ready at Narita! ANA’s third Airbus A380 “FLYING HONU” aircraft finally makes its maiden flight. Departing for Hawaii after this.

On October 20, ANA will begin operating its third Airbus A380 “FLYING HONU” for the first time on the scheduled Narita-Honolulu route.

The “FLYING HONU,” or “Flying Honu,” is a specially painted two-story aircraft designed to resemble a sea turtle, a creature native to Hawaii.

Unit 1, “Lani,” meaning sky, is ANA blue. The second aircraft, “Kai,” meaning the ocean, is emerald green. The third aircraft, “La,” which makes its debut tonight, is dyed sunset orange to resemble a Hawaiian sunset, and features a cute face with long eyelashes.

The first and third aircrafts are already in use on the route’s current 10 weekly flights (two round-trips per day), but the receipt and introduction of the third aircraft was delayed significantly due to the new Corona and other factors, and the aircraft has not been in operation except for maintenance flights in the two full years since it arrived at Narita in October 2021. The aircraft has never been operated except for maintenance flights.

The three “FLYING HONU” Airbus A380s will be used on 14 weekly flights (two round trips per day) from Narita to Honolulu starting December 6, and the three aircraft will no longer be seen together at the same time.

The inaugural ceremony will be held at the boarding gate of NH182 departing from Narita (21:30).
