Posted on October 24, 2023 by News Admin

Emergency relief supplies provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for earthquake damage in the western region of Afghanistan have been handed over to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

The emergency relief supplies to be provided to the IFRC arrived in the capital city of Kabul on October 14. A handover ceremony was held at Kabul International Airport at 6:00 a.m. (local time) on the same day, attended by Ambassador Takashi Okada, Japanese Ambassador to Afghanistan, and Mr. Nasefer Muhendi, IFRC’s local representative, and Mr. Abdul Latif Sabet, Deputy Secretary General of Afghanistan Red Crescent Society (ARCS).

At the handover ceremony, Ambassador Okada expressed his condolences to the victims and their families, and his hope that the relief supplies would contribute to alleviating the difficult situation of the affected families as thousands of houses were destroyed and many people were still displaced. In response, Mr. Muhendi expressed his deep appreciation for Japan’s prompt assistance and stated that the relief supplies would be delivered immediately from the airport to the severely damaged western region of the country and distributed to the victims through ARCS.
