On September 12, 2023, the LatAm Investment Forum, organized by Patria, a Latin American private equity firm, was held in Tokyo. While there are few large-scale forums related to the Latin American market in Japan, many Japanese companies participated in the forum. At the forum, embassies in Tokyo introduced the economic growth potential and investment environment of the Latin American region, providing a valuable opportunity to provide information for investment in the Latin American region.

JICA has made a number of overseas investment and loan projects in Latin America, and has recently invested in Dotor Consta S.A. of Brazil, together with Kamaroopin (a growth equity fund under Patria, the sponsor of this forum), for a project to improve access to medical care for low- and middle-income people in Brazil. This impact investment was made on September 21, 2012. This impact investment was mentioned by Prime Minister Kishida at the G7 Health Follow-up Side Event on September 21, and is expected to expand Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Brazil.

Mr. Yasumura, Director of the Overseas Investment and Loan Division, Private Sector Cooperation Department of JICA, who participated in the forum as a speaker, introduced examples of projects such as the above-mentioned impact investment and stated that JICA will actively implement projects to solve development issues such as climate change, agriculture, and healthcare in Latin America, where the investment environment is well developed and Japan has close ties. He also stated that he would actively implement projects to solve development issues such as climate change, agriculture, and healthcare in the Latin American region, where the investment environment is well-developed and Japan has strong relations.

JICA has long cooperated with the region in a variety of areas, including development for stable and resilient societies and economies, solutions to global issues such as disaster prevention, and cooperation with the Nikkei community.

JICA will leverage the trust it has cultivated through its cooperation with the Latin American region to further deepen partnerships and co-create with the private sector for the region’s sustainable development.
