Hoshino Resort’s nationwide onsen ryokan brand “Kai” has decided on the name “Kai Teshikaga” for the onsen ryokan facility it plans to develop in conjunction with the “Akan Mashu National Park Kawayu Onsen Machi Community Development Master Plan” in Teshikaga Town, Hokkaido.

It is located in Kawayuonsen 2-chome, Teshikaga-cho, Kawakami-gun, Hokkaido. It will be the second Kai brand facility in Hokkaido, following Kai Poroto, and is scheduled to open in 2026.

The town of Teshikaga, located in eastern Hokkaido, is a national park area with a vast expanse of nature, including Lake Mashu, which boasts world-class clarity, and Lake Kussharo, the largest caldera lake in Japan.

The reason for incorporating katakana into the name of the facility is that the name Teshikaga is “easy to read for those who are new to the area and has a novel impact for those who are familiar with the name. The name also has the Ainu meanings of “teshika” (bedrock) and “ga” (up), and “we focused on the sense of the power of nature.

Although the specific number of guest rooms and facilities have yet to be determined, the hotel plans to take advantage of Kawayu Onsen, a hot spring that is highly acidic and has excellent spring water quality, to create a facility where guests can enjoy the charms of the entire area at every stage of their stay under the Kai brand concept of “a hot spring inn where guests can encounter the charms of the local area.
