The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the Government of Nepal on October 5 in Kathmandu for a grant of up to 3.296 billion yen for the “Dhulikhel Hospital Trauma and Emergency Center Development Project”.
In Nepal, the need for emergency medical care is increasing as the number of traffic accidents nationwide will nearly double by 2021 compared to 2016 due to increased traffic volume. In addition, emergency patients with non-communicable diseases such as stroke and heart disease are also increasing due to dietary changes associated with economic development. Drikel Hospital, the target of this project, is also facing a shortage of beds and medical equipment due to the increase in the number of trauma patients from traffic accidents and emergency patients with stroke, heart disease, etc.
By constructing a new trauma and emergency center and equipping it with medical equipment at Dhulikhel Hospital, one of the largest tertiary care facilities in Nepal, this project will contribute to improving the quality of health care in Nepal by strengthening medical services for the country’s rapidly growing trauma and emergency patients, thereby contributing to SDG Goal 3 (health and well-being for all) of the SDGs.
