JR West Announces “Level Crossing Gate-Lite” Development Plan for Class 4 Level Crossings. Liftable bars promote left-right confirmation.

JR West has announced plans to install “Level Crossing Gate-Lite,” a simplified circuit breaker for Class 4 level crossings, which are level crossings without alarms, at approximately 220 locations by the end of FY2025. JR West plans to install approximately 130 locations in the Chugoku region, which has the largest number of Class 4 level crossings, as well as 20 locations in the Hokuriku region and 10 locations in the Kinki region.

The “Level Crossing Gate-Lite” is a barrier that allows pedestrians, bicycles, and motorcycles to stop and check the right and left sides of the road at Class 4 level crossings. The company announced in July that it had developed the system and would install it as soon as it was ready.

JR West had already developed and installed a “level crossing gate” made of Styrofoam, but the “Lite” has improved safety and ease of installation.
