Hawaii Local] For Souvenirs and for Yourself! Delicious Hawaiian Salt Stories

Posted on September 29, 2023 by News Admin

This time, I would like to talk about “salt” in Hawaii. Since learning about salt from the deep waters of Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii the other day, I have been completely hooked on its charms. I have decided that the next time I return to Japan, I will buy some Hawaiian salt for my family and acquaintances (← in addition to the usual cookies).

Before eating, it is important that the food is safe for the body. Many of you may remember that a few years ago, a study reported that about 90% of the world’s salt contained microplastics. Since then, I have been careful when choosing salt, but I did not know exactly what the criteria were for making such a decision, and I would just pick up a little expensive salt at an organic supermarket, thinking that it would be safe.

In the midst of all this, I had the opportunity to attend a class on salt extracted from deep sea water, about 700 meters off the coast of Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. Kona Sea Salt” has a salt farm along the ocean in Kona. While most sea salt is made from seawater close to the ocean surface, the salt harvested from this deep ocean water is not affected by microplastics or modern marine pollution (confirmed by testing).

At a salt farm in Kona, pure deep sea water is pumped up and evaporated by brilliant sunlight to make salt by hand. The local Kona salt farm also offers a tour that takes visitors through this process and includes a salt tasting of 13 different flavors (60 minutes, $25 for adults, $15 for ages 5-14).

This salt is rich in minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, manganese, zinc, and iodine, and has 33% less salt than regular salt. Magnesium, which is extracted during the production of such salt, also plays a major role for the body. When I put a few drops in cold water and drank it, it tasted like European hard water.

What I am interested in here is what magnesium does for us. Magnesium is one of the essential minerals for the human body. ……

Relieve muscle fatigue (including myocardial)

Helps regulate blood pressure

Helps maintain healthy bones

…Helps burn carbohydrates and fats.

Sleep and relaxation effects are expected.

Such as.

I remember when I once spoke to a supplement specialist who told me, “Minerals are the foundation of the body. Without minerals, vitamins would not work and enzymes would not be activated. Since then, I drink a drop of magnesium in my water every night and add a few drops when I cook rice. When I played sports on a windy, humid day, I added a few drops of lemon and magnesium to the water and my body felt noticeably easier. I just drink it with water and so far I haven’t had a three-day break.

They currently have 13 different flavors available for this salt. Herb, Roasted Garlic, Hawaiian Chili Pepper, Lemon & Rosemary, Seaweed, Maui Onion, Kiawe Smoke, and more. Like pintxos, each cut cucumber, pineapple, and cheese was dipped in salt and tasted.

Sandra, the owner, recommends, “Try pineapple and chili peppers, they go surprisingly well together!” She said, “Pineapple and chili pepper go surprisingly well together. Sweet and juicy pineapple and spicy, tangy chili. It was a perfect match with white wine. The tasting went on and on, with some of the dishes being “tomato and sea weed” and “cucumber and garlic are great, too,” but the low salt content kept us from getting bored with the salty taste. From that day on, cheese and chiave smoked salt has become a regular snack in our house.

Salt is a household necessity. If you are going to go to the trouble of buying it, it should be safe for your health. You can buy salt at Whole Foods Market, ABC Store, Island Vintage Coffee, etc.

Sandra is also passionate about environmental conservation, donating a portion of her sales to Papahanaumokuakea, a World Heritage Site in the state of Hawaii, and participating in activities to protect Hawaii’s oceans. The reason why she bottles many of her products and uses corks as lids is because “I don’t want to use as much plastic as possible,” Sandra told us.

Magnesium has many health benefits, which makes it ideal for bath salts. A type of magnesium effect helps you sleep well. There are types such as “CALM,” which calms the mind.

I would love to visit a salt farm in Kona, Hawaii Island, but first I will try to maintain my health with healthy pupu (snacks) with vegetables and salt and a good sleep with mineral water. If you have a chance, give it a try!
