On September 18, emergency relief supplies provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for damage caused by flooding in eastern Libya arrived at Beninah Airport in Benghazi, a key location in the eastern part of the country and a collection point for relief supplies.
At 14:30 (local time) on the following day, the Embassy of Japan in Libya and Ambassador Yuki Amadera, Special Coordinator for Libya, handed over emergency relief supplies to the Deputy Director of the United Nations World Food Organization (WFP) Office in Benghazi, Libya, and the head of the Libyan Humanitarian Aid Agency (LIBAID). The supplies were then delivered to WFP and LIBAID. The supplies will then be transported to the affected areas through WFP and LIBAID for distribution to the victims.
At the handover of the supplies, Ambassador Amadera expressed his gratitude to WFP and LIBAID for their prompt transportation and distribution of the supplies in the face of the devastating disaster. He also expressed his solidarity with the Libyan people and his wish for the speedy recovery of the affected people.
Ambassador Pro Tempore Tenji continued his meeting with Governor Bujwali of Benghazi. The governor expressed his gratitude to the Japanese government, JICA, and the Japanese people for their prompt assistance.
