Speakeasy restaurant and bar in a newly renovated hotel.

Posted on September 12, 2023 by News Admin

Secretly attracting attention are the small boutique hotels on Ala Wai and Kuhio Streets on the mountain side, which stand apart from the major hotels along Kalakaua Avenue. These hotels, which used to give the impression of being old, have been renovated one after another and are undergoing a major transformation.

HeyDay” at the White Sands Hotel

The White Sands Hotel was built in 1957 and has undergone a major renovation. Among them, the “HeyDay” bar, located in a space you can’t imagine from the outside, is a hideaway, but it is so nice that it is said to be …… that you will want to tell only your friends about it.

Walking further from the International Marketplace toward the Ala Wai Canal, the entrance to the hotel appears on the right.

Straight ahead at the entrance is the hotel’s reception desk. There, you will find a board with the height of the day’s waves, which is indispensable for surfers staying for a long time.

And then we arrived at the pool area. In just one minute, you will find yourself in a space that you would never expect to find in Waikiki. There are parasols and deck chairs, and guests are relaxing.

There you will find “HeyDay,” a thatched-roof bar that takes you back to the good old days of Hawaii in the 1960s.

You can sip a cocktail while swinging on a chair in a nostalgic mood, have a drink while relaxing by the pool, or have a meal at a table.

In fact, this bar was opened by Chuck Basler, owner of the popular downtown restaurant Fete, and Chef Robin Maiy, winner of the James Beard Award, considered an Oscar in the culinary world, and his wife. The delicate and creative dishes made with local ingredients can be enjoyed as a casual snack by the pool.

The hotel and bar is truly local, with locals staying for a week as a staycation, not just tourists. Just now, in celebration of HeyDay’s second anniversary, the hotel is offering 17% to 30% off room rates (depending on room) for reservations made by September 30 (stays until December 21), including a $30 coupon that can be used at HeyDay every day. More details can be found on the website.
