On September 1, JR East announced the outline of the renewal of Nakano Station, which is being promoted in cooperation with Nakano Ward and Tokyo Metro.
In the renewal project, a new bridge station building will be constructed on the west side of the existing station building. A 19-meter-wide north-south free passageway will be built above the tracks in an integrated structure with the station building to reduce congestion at the existing ticket gates and concourse. Furthermore, station facilities will be expanded by installing platform doors on each platform, four 15-passenger elevators, and new passenger toilets, including barrier-free toilets. The new station building and the north-south free passageway are scheduled to open in 2026.
The new station building will include a station building by Atre, and commercial facilities are also scheduled to open. By collaborating with Nakano Ward, which will develop the plaza in front of the station, and redevelopment projects in the surrounding area, the company aims to create a gateway to Nakano with a variety of attractions that will allow visitors to enjoy the area’s many and varied attractions.
